Happy 80th Birthday!

My grandpa turns 80 on Saturday.  Gosh, it's so hard to believe he's 80 my mind he's still as young as he was when I was just a tiny tot.  My family is very close, and he has been a large part of my life.  I have tons of memories with him...going to the summer carnival his work threw when I was little...going to visit him in Anaheim when I was 7... (we went to Disneyland every day for a month...he was the best tea-cup ride spinner I've ever seen.)...being forced to sit in the living room and watch operas with him (and finding out that I actually enjoyed them).  I'm very lucky to have had this much time with him, and hope to have many more years.

When he was younger, his friend's brother had a taxi service, and a plane out at our local tiny airport.  Grandpa used to drive a taxi for his friend's brother in exchange for flying lessons.  When I saw this Stampers Anonymous set, I knew it would be perfect for this special birthday. (The compass and map stamps came from the set.) I then found a fabulous biplane image at My Grafico.  Of course, I just had to make it vintage.  The arrow and metal embellishments are from Tim Holtz.  It's kind of hard to see, but the charm with the "L" carved out says "lifetime"  and the other tag says "journey".  Lifetime journey...I thought that was a pretty perfect sentiment.

Well, anyway, I really hope he likes this.  I feel pretty safe posting it....I don't think he even knows I have a blog, let alone checks it! LOL

Thanks so much for stopping by!  We'll see you soon.

One Extraordinary Woman

I am just having such a blast with the new Tiddly Inks steampunk images!  I had to create another card today.  For this card I decided to use Priscilla, a frame from the Steampunk Papers - Extra Goodies set and a sentiment from the Steampunk Sentiments Mega Pack.  (These packs are so get a huge amount of images or sentiments for a low price.  It's awesome!  You can check out the whole Steampunk line right here.)

The sentiment, which I printed really tiny, says "One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary [wo]men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary [wo]man."  It is attributed to Elbert Hubbard, a writer from the late 1800's.   The merged images I colored with Copics.  The dp with the writing and butterfly is actually a stamp from Hero Arts.  I decided to use it because of the butterflies in the image's frame.  After stamping onto grey paper I edged it using Pumice Stone Distress Ink.  I decided it was a little too bland, so colored the butterfly with Copics.  The butterfly on the top left is a Shapeability by Spellbinders.  It's actually two butterflies.  I cut the dies, adhered one to the card, edged the top one, drew lines on the wings with a Spica marker, curved the wings and attached just the middle to the bottom butterfly. The flowers on the bottom right are not actual flowers.  They are rub-ons, and I added pearls to the centers.

Of course I am entering this into the Tiddly Inks Samples Show Off.  You really should check it's a fabulous way to possibly win some awesome images.  It's a lot of fun, and since there are no set styles, colors or rules, it's a great way to just let your creativity fly!

Thanks so much for stopping by.  We'll be seeing you!

Happy Wednesday!

Good morning, my lovelies! I'm here to bring you a brand new challenge from Digistamps 4 Joy.  I know you are all excited!  =D

If you weren't already aware, International Children's Day is celebrated on different days around the world. Youth Day is recognized by the United Nations and is coming up on August 12th.    To celebrate, we want to see a project with a child image.  Fun, right?  Easy, too!
Here's my project front:

and side:

I decided to create a piece of wall art on some canvas.  Let me tell you...I was terrified.  I've never worked on canvas before.  First off, of course, my main  inspiration was the ADORABLE Digistamps 4 Joy image I got to use: Freckle-Faced Fairy Sitting.  Isn't she just a DOLL?  Love her.  I colored her with Copics and cut her out.  Then I started on my canvas.  The first thing I did was spritz the entire canvas with Glimmer Mist.  I pretty much saturated it.  It was taking forever to I used a paper towel to wipe off the excess.  I was very excited how it turned out.  Then I used two stencils and a paint dabber to create the butterfly and the flower.  The butterfly stencil had gotten a little bent and it was a bit hard to define the I outlined it with a black uniball pen.  I wanted the flower to match, so I outlined part of that in the pen, too.  The blue flourish corners are transparencies from K & Co.  (I was so lucky to have them...and in the right color, too!) The small butterfly is an outline sticker from Sakuro, and was colored in with Souffle pens.  The butterfly trails are gems from Michael's and Stickles.  The sentiment I printed out on my computer and colored using Distress Ink in Spun Sugar.  Then I edged it with the paint dabber.  The last thing I did was add Stickles to the fairy's wings.

I know a sweet little girl that I'm hoping will love this.  I'll be mailing it to her soon...just in time to celebrate Children's Day!  =D

Now, why don't you head on over to the Digistamps 4 Joy challenge blog and see what the rest of the DT created.  Let me tell you, there are some AMAZING things there.  You will DEFINITELY be inspired! Remember, you can use any company's image to enter the challenge, but if you use a Digistamps 4 Joy image you have a chance to win the DT's choice award!

Thanks for stopping by, and I'll see you soon!

Well, I created a tag for the the current scrappy side Simply Betty Challenges.  However, after I had finished, taken my pictures, and started getting the tabs ready for easy linking I realized....I only did HALF of the challenge!!  I created a Christmas tag....but I did NOT use the specific color combo!  Whoops!  Silly me for relying on my memory. Jeez. LOL  At least there are a few other Christmas in July challenges going on that I was going to enter, and I still have another week and a half to create another Simply Betty Tag.  (Plus, then I can use one of my new images from her latest release!  Yay!  Must always look on the bright side.)

Anyway, after that...involved...intro, here is my tag!

Those of you who know me know that I have two very different sides.  There's what I call the bubblegum side...that side LOVES pink, glitter, fluffy bunnies, kittens, puppies, get the drift.  The other side, however, loves skulls, black lace, piercings, tattoos, gothic images...well, you know.  Guess which side came out for this challenge?  LOL

I realize the sentiment is a little hard to read in the photo.  It says "Merry Frickin' Christmas".  Hee!  When I printed this image as my little Christmas elf, she just didn't seem like the "holly, jolly Christmas" type, ya know?  =D  This tag is just perfect for a very good friend of mine.  I'll have to save it to use on her present this year.

So, here's a list of what I used to create this card.  DCWV's Christmas Combo stack.  Simply Betty Stamps image: Pipper, colored with Copics.  Presents, ribbon and flowers are from Michael's Craft Stores.  The holly tag is from Miss Cutiepie.  I had added my text, then printed it out on the computer.  Unfortunately...I'm running out of ink, so it printed light purple with streaks.  Another whoops!  Fortunately I was able to save it by coloring it with my Copics.  The white dotted line on the tree paper is part of the dp.  To match it, I drew a white dotted line around the cranberry paper using a white Souffle pen.

Ok, well...thanks for stopping by!  I promise my next Christmas tag will be a happier one. LOL We'll see you again soon!

Bright Summer

**Post #2 for the day. Please scroll down to see my Happileigh Scrappin' post.**

Good morning!  It's time for another challenge at Stamp-N-Doodle.  This week we want to see those bright summer colors!  Just make any project using yellow, blue and one other color.

I decided to choose green as my third color.  I just HAD to have a pretty green for those tree leaves!  =D  The stamp we got to play with is called Surf's Up.  What a summery scene!  I always wished I knew how to surf.  I think I should probably learn to swim, first. LOL

Well, hop on over to the Stamp-N-Doodle Challenge Blog to check out the designs by the other DT members.   Remember, you do not need to use a Stamp-N-Doodle image to participate, but we would sure love it if you did!  If you do not yet have any Stamp-N-Doodle images, you can visit the store here.

Thanks for stopping by!! We'll be seeing you soon!  =D

Don't Be a Square!

Happi Monday, y'all!  It's time for another Happileigh Scrappin' challenge!  This week was Leigh's turn to pick a challenge, and she wants to see shaped cards.  Any shape....except squares or rectangles! can do a special fold!  Tri-fold!  Gate Fold!  Napkin Fold!  Go crazy.  =D

I opted for the shaped card; I used Jenny on Swing and T-O-Y Wood Sign.  Both were colored with Copics and then fussy cut out.  The smile sentiment was hand written.  The flowers were made with a Sizzix die cut, edged with chalk ink and curled. Blue flowers with gems in the middle are from Michael's.

Alright, now head on over to the Happileigh Scrappin' Challenge Blog to see the AWESOME cards by the rest of the Happi Sisters!  I hope to see y'all participate in our challenge this week.  Remember, you do not have to use a Happileigh Scrappin' image to enter, but we would sure LOVE it if you would!  Plus, if you use a Happileigh Scrappin' image, you get entered into both the random drawing and a separate drawing for just HLSC projects!  That's TWO chances to win! If you don't have any of Leigh's images yet, you can find some beautiful freebies here, or you can visit the store here.  As always, for every three images you purchase you get one free.  Also, for a limited time you get the image below FREE with any purchase!  Pretty, isn't it?!?  =D

Alright, thanks for stopping by!  I hope you join in with our challenge this week!

I am also entering this in:

More Show Off

Here's another card I created for the Tiddly Inks Samples Show Off.

I used Tanker Fairy Sits and a background from the Steampunk Papers-Extra Goodies set.  The grey gear paper is from DCWV's Tattered Time matstack.  The word background paper is from a Tim Holtz paper pack.  The clock is a Tim Holtz stamp.  The gears, arrows and Courage medal are embellishments from Tim Holtz.  The black jewel on the bottom right is from my neglected jewelry-making stash.  Flowers are from Michaels, as is the line of gears stamp on the right side.  I colored the image using Copics (including the background).  Stickles were added to Tanker's wings, and the gears in the image were colored using a Spica marker.  All papers were edged using Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.

Thank you so much for stopping by to take a look.  I hope you are having a fabulous weekend, and we'll see you soon!

More Movies...

It's the second week in Tiddly Ink's month of movie challenges!  This week, the theme is Nature Movie.  Well, when I heard the theme, the first thing that popped into my head was Ferngully.  I just LOVE that movie.  I usually end up watching it whenever it's on TV.  I think the writing was hilarious...if a bit preachy.  That's ok,'s still fabulous!  If you've never seen the movie I would highly advise watching it.  It's animated and written for children, but it has some humor that the adults would enjoy, as well.  (Robin Williams voicing Batty...priceless!)

I used Fairy Fae, colored with Copics and Spica markers.  The trees were pre-colored freebies from the Tiddly Inks blog ages ago.  I layered them in to create a little mini forest.  The sky background is from Bearly Mine Designs.  Butterfly, gems and papers are from Michael's.  The sentiment is a quote from Ferngully.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  We'll be seeing you soon!

If you're a regular reader of my posts, you know that I just love Tiddly Inks, and you also know that Tiddly Inks and Make It Crafty recently released a line of steampunk images.  Well, I just couldn't wait to try them all out.  You'll probably be seeing quite a few cards using these images in the next week or so, especially since Tiddly Inks is having a Samples Show Off challenge.  Check out the details here.

Here is my first card made specifically for the Sample Show Off.  I've used three of Tiddly Inks new images: Precious, a frame and a background paper from the Extra Goodies 3 Papers and Gear set.  These images are just so easy to mix and match!

Here's a closeup of the merged images:

I named this card Simplify.  I was really trying to keep it simple, so originally I just had the merged image, the embossed background and the gear die cut card.  However, it was just TOO simple, you know?  So I added the metal tag.  Still not enough, so I added some flowers.  Just needed a little bit more....and the bling was added.  Still fairly simple...but not as boring. LOL  The gear die cut is from Sizzix (the Tim Holtz Alterations line), the flowers and bling are from Michael's, the metal tag and the embossing folder are more items from the Tim Holtz line.  Precious was colored with Copics, and the background was shaded with Distress Ink in Milled Lavender.  The embossed paper was shaded with chalk ink in Wisteria from the Color Box.

Well, thanks for stopping by to take a look.  Make sure to pop by later in the week to see more of these fabulous steampunk images.  Hugs for now!

Love Gently

I got this Simply Betty digi stamp a while ago and printed it out immediately. went into a pile of images I've been meaning to color.  When I heard the new Simply Betty Stamps challenge was to use any Simply Betty Stamp with any sketch challenge...I knew it was finally time to bring her out.

Meet Sting You Lola.  Isn't she adorable?  I just love that sly look on her face.  Cupid better watch out...Lola's looking to take his place!  I love the cute little heart tattoos under her eye, and her adorable outfit!  =D  The sentiment is from Tiddly Inks.  I was originally going to use a different sentiment, but as I was cutting it out, I noticed this one printed right above it.  I decided this was the better match.  The flowers were created with a Sizzix die I bought a few weeks ago...yet another new toy to play with.  =D  The papers are from Stampin' Up, part of a now discontinued line.  The black lace (that you can barely see) is from JoAnn Fabrics.  Let me tell you...if you could see it, you would be so jealous. lol  Do you know how long it took me to find black lace that was straight instead of curved!?!  The pink ribbon (that you also can't really see) is from Michael's.

The sketch I used is from Digital Tuesday.

Awesome, no?  I love the wavy bottom of the middle layer.

Well, that's it for tonight...  Thanks for stopping by!

Some Odd Challenge

Some Odd Girl is having a very different kind of challenge.  It's Lift an Odd Girl!  What that means is that we go through the DT member's blogs and find a card to scrap-lift. know me, I do love to distress things.  When I saw this card by Kellie Winnell, I just HAD to grab it.  Here's mine:

I really loved the look of Kellie's creation, and thought it would be perfect for a vintage wedding card.

I used a couple of dps from Tim Holtz, ribbon from Michael's, charms from TPC Studio, flower from Prima.  Cream papers were embossed using a sizzix folder. Image is from Some Odd Girl.  Tag image is from Dana's Inspirations. Papers edged using Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you had fun seeing my card.  I sure had fun making it!  =D

Happi Monday!!  You know what that means...another Happileigh Scrappin' challenge.  Woot!  This week it was my turn to pick the challenge.  (Yay!!)  I decided that it would be fun to see everyone make their own embellishments.  Flowers, buttons...anything you can think of!  Now, not ALL of your embellishments have to be hand made, but we'd like to see at least one.

I used the images Colleen in Heart Dress and Flower Patch.  (I did alter the Flower Patch a little bit...there's actually a butterfly in the image.  However, I decided to leave those out since I would be creating my own butterflies.)  Colleen was colored with Copics, the flowers were colored with Spica markers.  I created the butterflies using ribbon and craft wire.  I created the sun by placing gems as close to each other as possible, filling the middle spaces with gold Stickles, and drawing the rays with a Spica marker.  The three flowers on the bottom I created using three different flower punches in two different colored papers.  The middle of the flowers are pastel brads.

Now that you've seen my card, head on over to the Happileigh Scrappin' challenge blog to see the creations by the rest of the Happi Sisters.  Remember, you don't have to use a Happileigh Scrappin' image to participate, but if you do your project will be entered into a second drawing for just the Happileigh Scrappin' image projects.   If you don't have any Happileigh Scrappin' images, you can find some gorgeous freebies here, or visit the store here.  (There's a gorgeous clock image free with every purchase for a limited time.)

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to be seeing your creations!  =D

I am also entering this in Digi Doodle Shop's Best challenge #67: Make Your Own Flowers

It's Summertime...

It's summertime, and one of my favorite summer activities is hanging out in the back yard, grilling and having a bonfire with a group of friends.  Well, this week's Stamp-N-Doodle challenge fits right in with that pastime.  This week we want to see projects with a Picnic or BBQ theme.

The DT got to play with a fun little image called Ants Picnic.  I've never used an ant image before, so it was fun to do something out of the norm.  The image was colored with Copics.  I used the red plaid dp because it's the color and pattern I always think of when I think of picnic blankets.  Embellishments are from Recollections.

You can check out the creations by the rest of the DT by heading on over to the Stamp-N-Doodle challenge blog.  Remember, you do not need to use a Stamp-N-Doodle image to participate, but you know we'd love it if you would!  =D  Thanks for stopping by, and we'll see you soon!

Reel Me In!

Tiddly Inks is having a theme month for their challenges, and it is movies.  I'm so excited...I LOVE movies!!  The first challenge for the month is a Summer or Scary Movie.  Well, after seeing the new steampunk release by Tiddly Inks and Make it Crafty, I found the PERFECT image for one of my favorite scary movies.

This card was inspired by From Hell, a movie about Jack the Ripper starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham.  The image, Maria, was colored using Copics.  The moon and cloud stamp is from Stampscapes.  The Jack the Ripper image I found online.  The red rose was originally white, but I colored it with my Copics.

Thanks for stopping by!  We'll see you again soon.

Christmas in July

Hey y'all!  It's time for another Digistamps 4 Joy challenge. Yay!  This week is Countdown to Christmas.  December is approaching fast, so why not get a head start on those holiday cards? We want to see Christmas cards, with lots of snow and ice!

I got to use this fantastic image called Santa in Chimney.  I think it's just hilarious...something perfect for my wacky family. =D  The image was colored with Copics.  Then I used a snow pen and some Stickles to give the snow dimension.  The dark blue paper is a shimmer paper.  I stamped snowflakes onto it using white ink, then kaleidoscope embossing powder.  Add some ribbon and bling, and voila!

Now that you've seen my card, pop on over to the Digistamps 4 Joy challenge blog to see what the rest of the design team came up with.  Remember, you do not have to use a Digistamps 4 Joy image to join the challenge.  However, if you get an additional chance to win!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I Think of You...

Last night I was honored to create a card as a guest designer for TLC Creations.  Paulette has amazing images, digi papers and word art in many different catagories.  My absolute favorites are her vintage images.  I was ecstatic when I got to play with one of her new Vintage Ornate Add On sets.  Below you can see my creation.  (The sentiment is also from Paulette, I believe it's called En Francais.  I'm at work so I can't double check that right now...but I'll update my post when I get home.)

I distressed the edges, then inked with Distress Ink in Pumice Stone and Vintage Photo.  Actually, all of the papers are inked in those two colors.  The background dp I created with a paragraph wooden stamp.  You probably can't see it...but it's also in French!  =)  The ribbon and flowers are from Michael's craft stores.

Now, why don't you head on over to TLC Creations and take a look at the rest of the set and all of the other goodies.  Paulette gives away a freebie a day, sometimes more! Today we're celebrating Christmas in July.  Who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Not a Creature Was Stirring, Not Even An......Eeeeek!

**Post #2 for the day.   Please scroll down to see my Stamp-N-Doodle post.**

Good morning!  It's time for another Happileigh Scrappin' challenge.  Yay!!  This week the challenge was set by Happi Sister Vicki, and it's....Critters!  There's a critter in the house!  (Well, hopefully not really.  I think my puppy might freak if the bunnies actually got in the house. lol)  We want to see a card with some kind of critter on it...mice, teddy bears, frogs, turtles...some kind of animal.

Now, y'all know how much I love Tatters.  He's just such a cutie!  This adorable image, Tatters Watermelon, was a recent release and I just couldn't wait to use him!  He's just so sweet, enjoying this nice, juicy watermelon.  Luckily, I had the perfect dp for this image in DCWV's Sweet Stack.

Ok now, head on over to the Happileigh Scrappin' challenge blog to see what the other Happi Sisters came up with.  You will not be sorry! Remember, you don't have to use a Happileigh Scrappin' image to participate in the challenge, but if you do your entry will be counted twice!  If you don't have any Happileigh Scrappin' images, you can visit the store here or get some fabulous freebies here.

I hope to see you playing along! =D  Have a fabulous week.

I'm In Love!

Not that it's news, but I am completely in love.  My husband is one of the best men in the whole wide world.  When I need to make a Love/Romance card, like for this week's Stamp-N-Doodle challenge, it's very easy for me to find inspiration...

This week the DT was able to play with a fabulous stamp named Madagascar Lemurs.  Isn't it adorable?!?  I just love these little cuties.  I'm a huge fan of the Madagascar movie, and this couple totally reminds me of King Julian.  (I like to move it, move it!! lol)  I didn't want to alter this image too much, so I just edged it with Pumice Stone distress ink and created a black and white card for it.  I was really trying for a sophisticated, elegant look.  Hopefully I succeeded!  =D

So, who's your inspiration?  Come join us this week over at Stamp-N-Doodle's challenge blog and show us your love/romance cards.  We would LOVE to see them!  =D
